Style and comfort are two characteristics that are hard to find to describe the same garment. The Kaftan, proves that the saying ‘beauty is pain’ isn’t always true. In fact the flowing etherealness of a kaftan and the easy, almost effortlessness of wearing one help make them beautiful. In last week’s blog we talked about what goes underneath your kaftan, but what about what goes on top per se? In this week’s blog post we’re going to show you how to style up (or down) for any occasion.
Same Kaftan – two totally different outfits (our models are both wearing Silk Congo Kaftan)
Dress up your kaftan with your favourite jewellery. Depending on the event, you can go with bold statement pieces like chunky earrings and colourful beads, to the more demure essentials accessorising with gold and neutrals.
One of the great things about Kaftans is they are loose fitting, but sometimes you want to create a bit more of a silhouette. With the thick belt lie this one, or even a smaller one in a contrasting colour you can add some shape and create a whole other outfit with the same kaftan. Here are a couple of examples:
Another take is to make a more dress feel out of your Kaftan. Check out this gorgeous model’s laid back style – a flowing feel with a belt to accentuate the waist – Orange Silk Kaftan by Roopa Pemmaraja
I’ve paired one of Laloom’s Leo kaftans with one of my favourite belts, capri jeans (you could also complete this look with black pants) and a white slip. A great casual outfit for perhaps a laid back dinner with friends and family.
Amp up your outfit to feel a bit more flirtations and sexy with wedges, as our model Cathy demonstrates, they can really ‘elevate’ your outfit.
You can also style your kaftans for a casual day out, wearing your shorts or jeans, make your kaftan pop with a little bit of shine and glitz on your flats.
And a few more inspirations…
Channel your inner Kate Moss and style it ‘Boho Chic’

Like our friends here who modelled for us last year, you can wear your kaftan in its original form. Long kaftans can be worn as elegant gowns when you match them with your favourite heels and some matching jewellery.
Nicole Ritchie loves wearing Kaftans to Hollywood parties and events. Here she pairs her kaftan with an animal print clutch and some nude heels.
How do you wear your kaftans? If you don’t wear them yet, how would you?
We would love to see your photos showing off your garments, how you wear them, and the accessories to your own unique outfits and individuality!
